Crunchyroll Anime Nights Screens Your Letter in U.S. and Canadian Theaters on August 17

What Crunchyroll announced

Crunchyroll is bringing the South Korean animated feature Your Letter to theaters through its Anime Nights screening program. The company announced on August 3 that the film will play in the United States and Canada for one night only on August 17, screening in Korean with English subtitles, and that tickets are on sale now.

Anime News Network reports the same August 17 date and territories, and notes that tickets went on sale Monday.

What Your Letter is

The film is directed by Yong-Hwan Kim and adapts the WEBTOON series of the same name by Hyeon A Cho, which concluded its run in 2019 and held a near perfect 9.98 reader rating on the platform. Per the film's copyright credit, it is a production of Studio N and Studio LICO with Lotte Entertainment. Readers who want the source material in English can find it through Ize Press, which released a single volume edition of the webtoon in July 2024.

The story follows So-ri, who transfers to a new school after summer vacation and finds an anonymous letter tucked in her desk drawer. The note introduces her to the school and leaves a clue pointing toward a second letter, with the sender promising more if she can find it. Chasing the trail across the school, So-ri repeatedly crosses paths with a student her own age named Dong-soon, and the two become friends as they hunt down the letters together. The further she gets, the more her curiosity turns toward the person writing them.

The festival run

Your Letter arrived in North American theaters with a decorated festival record behind it. At the Bucheon International Animation Festival, the film took three prizes: the Jury Award for Feature Film, Best Music, and Best Technical Achievement.

Where else it is playing

The Anime Nights booking is not the film's only release outside Korea this year. Anime News Network reports that Japan gets the film on September 25 under the title En no Tegami, in a Japanese dub distributed by CoMix Wave Films, with Nako Yabuki and voice actor Kensho Ono among the cast.

For North American viewers, though, August 17 is the date that matters. Anime Nights bookings are single night events, so this is a narrow window rather than a standard theatrical run, and Crunchyroll has not announced any additional dates or a streaming release. Anyone who wants to see the film on a big screen should check listings for a participating theater before the night passes.
