Re:cycle of the Penguindrum Films Return to Japanese Theaters From September 25

What was announced

The official Penguindrum account confirmed on August 8 that the two part theatrical work RE:cycle of the PENGUINDRUM returns to Japanese cinemas for a pair of one week runs. Part 1, "Kimi no Ressha wa Seizon Senryaku," screens from Friday, September 25 through Thursday, October 1. Part 2, "Boku wa Kimi wo Aishiteru," follows from Friday, October 2 through Thursday, October 8. The official site files the revival as the first project in the series' 15th anniversary line.

Where it screens, and what attendees get

The official event page lists 10 participating theaters. They are Sapporo Cinema Frontier in Hokkaido, Grand Cinema Sunshine Ikebukuro and Shinjuku Wald 9 in Tokyo, Yokohama Burg 13 and Kawasaki Cinecitta in Kanagawa, Keisei Rosa 10 in Chiba, Midland Square Cinema in Aichi, T-Joy Umeda in Osaka, T-Joy Kyoto, and T-Joy Hakata in Fukuoka. The site directs fans to each venue for tickets and showtimes.

Everyone who attends receives a smartphone sized sticker using the poster visual for the part they see. It is limited to one per person and handed out first come, first served while supplies last, and the site marks it as an item that is not for sale.

Ikuhara and Kimura appear on September 27

A separate talk show screening runs at Grand Cinema Sunshine Ikebukuro on Sunday, September 27. Director Kunihiko Ikuhara and Subaru Kimura, who voices Kanba Takakura, appear at both showings. The 14:25 screening carries a stage greeting after the film, and the 17:50 screening carries one before it. The official page says ticket prices and sales details have not been announced yet.

Background

Penguindrum started as a television series in July 2011. It follows Himari Takakura, a terminally ill girl revived by a spirit that lives inside a penguin shaped hat, and her brothers Kanba and Shoma, who are told to find an object called the Penguindrum in exchange for her extended life.
