The Elusive Samurai Season 2 Sets July 17 Premiere on Crunchyroll

What was announced

The Elusive Samurai Season 2 will premiere on July 17, 2026, and stream on Crunchyroll. The exact date was revealed during Aniplex of America's industry panel at Anime Expo 2026, building on the July 2026 window confirmed late last year. In Japan the sequel returns to Fuji TV's Noitamina late-night block.

The official anime account has also added a second broadcast home. On TOKYO MX and BS11, a rerun of the first season begins July 13, airing Monday nights at 24:30, and the account says the second season will follow directly in the same slot. That gives new viewers a two-week window to catch up before the continuation begins.

Opening theme and returning staff

Alongside the broadcast news, the production confirmed the season's opening theme: "Onigoto" (鬼事), performed by singer Kento Nakajima. A special trailer cut together footage from both the first and second seasons to mark the summer premiere.

CloverWorks returns to produce the animation. Yuta Yamazaki is back as director, Yoriko Tomita again handles series composition, and Yasushi Nishiya returns as character designer, keeping the core creative team intact from the debut season.

The story so far

The series adapts the manga by Yusei Matsui, which launched in Weekly Shonen Jump in 2021 and has since grown to more than 20 collected volumes. Set during the turbulent shift from the Kamakura to the Muromachi period, against the backdrop of the Kenmu Restoration, it follows Hojo Tokiyuki, a young lord forced to flee after his clan is destroyed by the ambitious Ashikaga Takauji. Sheltered by the eccentric shrine priest , who claims to see glimpses of the future, Tokiyuki sets out to reclaim his family's glory using an unlikely talent: a superhuman gift for running and hiding.
