CyberAgent has announced a television anime adaptation of The Bugle Call: Song of War, the fantasy war manga by Mozuku Sora and Higoro Toumori. According to Anime News Network, the company revealed the project through a press release on June 29, 2026, and set the series to premiere in 2027. Who is making it

The anime is being produced at CA Soa, the in house animation studio CyberAgent established in 2025, making this one of the young studio's early original productions. Shinya Watada, known for Gundam Build Fighters Try and Aikatsu Stars!, is directing. Anime News Network reports a core staff that includes Michiro Tsuchiya (Akane-banashi, ClassicaLoid) on series scripts, Michinori Chiba (Sk8 the Infinity, Mobile Suit Gundam 00) on character designs, and Hitomi Koto (Sparks of Tomorrow) composing the music. Hiroshi Arisawa is credited as action animator, Kanetake Ebikawa on concept design, and Takayuki Yanase on prop design, with Shirogumi handling the CG animation.

What the story is about

The Bugle Call: Song of War, known in Japanese as Senso Kyoshitsu, is set in Arboral Year 1294, in a world shaped by nine ancient towers called Spires. The protagonist, Luca, is a mercenary bugler who dreams of becoming a maestro and possesses a rare ability to perceive sound visually. After he nearly dies on the battlefield, a figure called the Pontiff recruits him into a squad of similarly gifted soldiers, the Branch-hexed, to wage war against rival empires. The premise turns Luca's musical gift into an instrument of conflict, an angle that critics have credited for the manga's unusual magic system and dark fantasy tone.

Background

Mozuku Sora and Higoro Toumori launched the manga in Shueisha's Jump SQ. magazine in June 2022. The series moved to the seasonal Jump SQ. RISE in April 2026 and, per Anime News Network, is now heading toward its final battle, with 13 compiled volumes released in Japan as of February. Viz Media publishes the series in English, where six volumes are available, with the sixth having shipped in April. This marks the franchise's first step beyond the page after roughly four years in print. For now the only confirmed timing is a 2027 window, and further details on cast, the exact release date, and broadcasters have not been announced.
