Crunchyroll Picks Up Romelia War Chronicle for 2026, With a World Premiere at Otakon

What was announced

Crunchyroll announced on July 27 that it will stream Romelia War Chronicle later this year, framing the series with the line "the Demon King may be defeated, but the real battle starts now." Anime News Network reported the same acquisition, and specifies the territories: North America, Central America, South America, Europe, Africa, Oceania, the Middle East and the CIS.

Per Anime News Network, the series runs two cours, or roughly two broadcast quarters, and is set for a 2026 debut. Crunchyroll's own post commits only to "this year," and no specific premiere date has been announced.

A world premiere at Otakon

The acquisition comes with an early look for convention attendees. Anime News Network reports that the world premiere screens at Otakon on July 31 at 2:45 p.m. EDT, at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center in Washington, D.C. Otakon 2026 runs July 31 through August 2, which puts the screening on the convention's opening day and several months ahead of the streaming debut.

What the series is

The full title of the source work is a mouthful in the tradition of the genre: Romelia War Chronicle: Even After Defeating the Demon King, Humanity Still Seems Doomed, So I Formed a Military Force. The premise follows from that. Romelia von Graham is a noblewoman whose engagement to the prince is annulled in the aftermath of the Demon King's defeat, and who responds by building an army of her own to hold together a world that won the war and is now losing the peace. Anime News Network traces the origin to a web novel that Ryo Ariyama launched on Shosetsuka ni Naro in 2019, later published in print under Shogakukan's Gagaga Bunko imprint and concluded at six volumes. Seven Seas Entertainment has licensed the manga adaptation for English release.

Staff and cast

Studio Atra handles animation production. Anime News Network credits Hiroshi Shirai as director with Takahiro Hirata as assistant director, Aya Satsuki on series composition, Yoshiko Saito and Yuta Otaka on character design, and KOHTA YAMAMOTO on music.

The reported cast has Yuna Nemoto as Romelia von Graham, Jin Ogasawara as Al, Tomohiro Ono as Ray, Yuya Hirose as Henri Lleus Lionel, Sayaka Senbongi as Elizabeth, Mariya Ise as Ekaterina and Asaka as Ryoki. None of these names are attached to the series in our own catalog yet, so they are listed here without links.
