LEGO One Piece Special "Captain Usopp the Brave" Sets September 29 Netflix Premiere
Netflix revealed a LEGO-animated One Piece special narrated by Usopp, with a teaser trailer and a September 29 release date.
A LEGO twist on the Straw Hats
Netflix has announced a LEGO-animated One Piece special, and it hands the narrator's job to the crew's biggest teller of tall tales. Titled "Captain Usopp the Brave," the project was revealed on July 20 through Netflix's official anime account and the official One Piece staff account, both of which posted a teaser trailer. It premieres September 29, only on Netflix.
The framing is a joke longtime fans will get instantly. In the teaser, Usopp, the crew's resident sniper and habitual exaggerator, casts himself as the hero of the story and promises to recount the Straw Hats' adventures with his usual embellishment. Netflix bills it as "the ALMOST true story of Captain Usopp the Brave," a wink at the character's well-earned reputation for stretching the truth. The One Piece staff post leaned into the same idea, describing the crew's "most reliably unreliable narrator" as the one telling this tale.
What was announced
According to reporting from outlets including ComicBook and Siliconera, the special will run in two parts and retell events from the first two seasons of the Netflix live-action One Piece, rebuilt in the blocky LEGO aesthetic that debuted with the tie-in sets in 2025. Splitting the story across two installments suggests Netflix is treating this as more than a short promotional gag, giving the retelling room to cover a meaningful stretch of the crew's early journey. Those outlets report that the production is a collaboration involving the LEGO Group, Shueisha, and the animation house Atomic, with Jacob Romero, who plays Usopp in the live-action series, reprising the role here. The announcement also references Syrup Village, Usopp's home turf, as a setting. Netflix did not publish a full cast or staff list with the reveal, so those production credits are best read as outlet reporting rather than confirmed first-party details.
Background
One Piece follows Monkey D. Luffy and his Straw Hat crew as they sail in search of the legendary treasure that gives the series its name. Alongside Usopp, the teaser shows other familiar faces in minifigure form, including the crew's small reindeer doctor, Chopper. The LEGO special sits apart from both the long-running anime and the live-action series, giving the franchise a lighter, all-ages spin without displacing either. Anchoring it to Usopp is a fitting choice, since a character built on embellished war stories is the natural fit for a playful, blocky retelling that does not have to take itself too seriously.
