New Keroro Gunso Film Opens in Japan With an All-Star Fukuda Comedy Cast

A 16-year wait ends

The first new Keroro Gunso theatrical film in more than a decade is now playing in Japanese cinemas. The official anime account confirmed that the film, titled "Shin Gekijoban Keroro Gunso: Fukkatsu Shite Sokkou Chikyuu Metsubou no Kiki de Arimasu," opened nationwide on June 26, 2026, sharing a celebratory illustration drawn by original creator Mine Yoshizaki to mark the premiere. According to Japanese outlets including Eiga.com and Natalie, it is the franchise's first theatrical outing since 2010, ending a 16-year gap for the long-running comedy.

Sgt. Frog began airing in 2004 and ran for 358 episodes, following a squad of alien frogs whose plan to conquer Earth keeps collapsing into domestic chaos under one Tokyo family's roof. The series is based on Yoshizaki's manga, which has been serialized in Kadokawa's Monthly Shonen Ace since 1999, making the film a homecoming for one of the publisher's signature comedy properties.

The Fukuda-gumi guest cast

The film's biggest talking point is its voice cast. Per the official site and reporting from Natalie and Oricon, screenwriter and chief director Yuichi Fukuda assembled a dozen actors from his own live-action projects to voice guest characters. Faces from the "Yusha Yoshihiko" series include Takayuki Yamada, Haruka Kinami, Tsuyoshi Muro, Jiro Sato and Shin Takuma. Ryohei Suzuki returns to his "HK: Hentai Kamen" role, and the live-action "Gintama" cast of Shun Oguri, Masaki Suda, Kanna Hashimoto, Kankuro Nakamura, Yuya Yagira and Ryo Yoshizawa also lend their voices.

Returning regulars anchor the rest of the cast, with Kumiko Watanabe back as Keroro. Reporting notes that SixTONES member Jesse voices the original characters Aruru and Deruru in a dual role, with narration by Shinobu Hasegawa of the comedy duo Sissonne.

Staff and music

Beyond writing and overseeing the film, Fukuda is credited as chief director, with Fumitoshi Oizaki directing, according to the official site and Eiga.com. The same sources credit BN Pictures with production and KADOKAWA and Bandai Namco Filmworks with distribution. Musician ano performs the theme song, "Kashippanashi Destiny," and teams with the comedian Soshina on the opening track, a new take on the franchise's classic "Kero! to March."
