The light novel series The Kept Man of the Princess Knight (Himekishi-sama no Himo) is getting a television anime, set to premiere in January 2027. The news arrived on June 29 alongside a teaser visual and a teaser promotional video, with the project confirmed by publisher Kadokawa and echoed by staff members sharing their involvement. The series adapts The Kept Man of the Princess Knight, the Dengeki Bunko novels written by Toru Shirogane and illustrated by Saki Mashima.

The teaser visual and PV

The teaser visual, drawn by character designer Hisao Ishii, shows the two leads bound together by a red thread. The accompanying teaser PV gives a first look at the labyrinth city called Gray Neighbor, the crime-ridden setting where the story unfolds, and plays up the contrast between the easygoing Matthew and the serious, proud Arwin. The reveal doubled as a second wave of staff announcements, naming the composer and sound director on top of the core team unveiled with the adaptation itself.

Cast and staff

The anime is being produced by studio BLADE and directed by Chihiro Kumano, who previously worked as assistant director on Unnamed Memory. Deko Akao is handling series composition and Hisao Ishii is designing the characters, while the latest announcement added Taku Iwasaki on music and Satoshi Motoyama as sound director. Junichi Suwabe voices Matthew, and Mikako Komatsu plays Arwin, the Crimson Princess Knight. The two leads anchor a story that, per the announcement, hinges on a secret only they share, leaving open whether their unusual partnership bends toward hope or tragedy.

Background

The Dungeon City is a wicked place filled with crime, debauchery, and death, and its one shining light is Arwin, the beautiful Crimson Princess Knight. She and her party of adventurers descend into the dungeon at the city's center, seeking a legendary treasure with the power to rebuild her fallen kingdom. At her side is Matthew, a man the city writes off as a cowardly weakling who spends her hard-earned money on booze, gambling, and women. No one, not even the princess knight herself, knows what Matthew is truly capable of. The series carries action, adventure, and fantasy genres.
