From Far Away Anime Sets October 4 Premiere and Reveals Main Cast

A shojo fantasy classic finally gets an anime

The official website and X account for the television anime of Kyoko Hikawa's From Far Away (Kanata Kara) unveiled a teaser trailer on July 14, along with the main cast, the core production staff, and an October 4 premiere date. It is the first anime adaptation of a manga that ran for more than a decade without one, and it arrives to mark the series' 35th anniversary.

According to the official site, From Far Away will begin on TOKYO MX on Sunday, October 4 at 24:00, with later broadcasts on ABC TV and WOWOW. The teaser PV went live the same day on the show's official YouTube channel, giving fans a first look at the adaptation's animation.

The cast and staff

Tomoyo Kurosawa voices the heroine, Noriko Tachiki, a schoolgirl pulled out of her ordinary life and into a strange world. Kentaro Kumagai plays Izark, the wandering swordsman who becomes her protector. Yuichiro Umehara has been cast as Rachef, and Eiji Takeuchi voices Keimos.

Studio DEEN is producing the series. Veteran director Noriyuki Abe, whose credits include Bleach, Flame of Recca, and Great Teacher Onizuka, is directing, with Rika Takasugi handling series composition, Eiji Abiko designing the characters, and Takeshi Hama composing the music. The official site notes that original creator Kyoko Hikawa is supervising the adaptation herself.

What From Far Away is about

Hikawa serialized From Far Away in Hakusensha's shojo magazine LaLa from 1991 to 2002. The story follows Noriko, an ordinary schoolgirl who, on her way home one day, is suddenly plunged into a strange fantasy world. She is rescued there by a young man named Izark, brave and skilled but harboring a terrible darkness. According to an ancient prophecy, Noriko holds the power to unleash the evil that sleeps inside him, and the two become bound together as they navigate a world that is as hostile as it is wondrous.

The manga was a defining shojo fantasy of its era and won the Seiun Award for best science fiction comic in 2004, yet it had never received an anime, film, or spin-off until now. The October series adapts Hikawa's original story from the beginning.

When and where to watch

From Far Away premieres October 4 on TOKYO MX, followed by ABC TV and WOWOW. No streaming plans or international distribution have been announced yet, and no theme song performers have been named. Anime.com will update this story as more of the fall 2026 season is revealed.
