MAPPA's Beat & Motion, a Million Tag Grand Prix Winner, Hits Netflix in 2027
Naoki Fujita's coming-of-age music manga gets a MAPPA anime streaming worldwide on Netflix in 2027.
What was announced
MAPPA is adapting Beat & Motion into a television anime that will stream exclusively worldwide on Netflix in 2027. The project was revealed during MAPPA's 15th Anniversary Lineup Reveal on June 19, 2026, with both Netflix and CyberAgent's anime division confirming the studio, the streaming home, and the year.
Beat & Motion is not yet in our catalog, so there is no show page to link, but the announcement is one of the more notable first-time adaptations from the event.
The Million Tag connection
The series has an unusual origin. As confirmed by official posts and reporting from Anime News Network and The Fandom Post, Beat & Motion is the Grand Prix-winning work from Million Tag, Shueisha's reality-style audition that pairs aspiring manga artists with editors. Creator Naoki Fujita won the competition, which guaranteed serialization on Shonen Jump+ and an anime adaptation. The manga ran on Shonen Jump+ from February 2023 to January 2025 and was collected into six volumes, with an English release via Viz Media and Manga Plus.
Story, cast, and staff
Beat & Motion is a coming-of-age story about music and animation, following Tatsuhiko, a young man who has lost sight of his dream, and Nico, an indie musician who refuses to give up on hers. Shuichiro Umeda voices Tatsuhiko and Aya Gomazuru voices Nico.
According to Anime News Network, the anime is directed by Yuki Komada, with series composition and scripts by Misaki Morie and character designs by Kazunori Aoki, who also serves as chief animation director alongside Mina Osawa.
Why it matters
The reveal is the first wave of updates from the Netflix and MAPPA strategic partnership announced in January 2026. It also closes the loop on Million Tag's central promise, turning a competition winner into a worldwide streaming title. A more specific premiere date within 2027 has not been announced.
