The True Saint Light Novel Gets a TV Anime in January 2027

The light novel and manga series Because I, the True Saint, was Banished, that Country is Done For! is getting a television anime, with the project set to premiere in January 2027. The reveal arrived on July 23 through the official V-STORAGE information site run by Bandai Namco Filmworks, alongside a first teaser visual, the initial voice cast, and part of the core production staff.

What was announced

According to the announcement from V-STORAGE, the series will air as a TV anime in 2027, and the production studio Tsumugi Akita Animation Lab pinned down a January 2027 broadcast window on its own account, noting that the project is currently in production. The teaser visual released with the news pairs the story's saint with her male lead against a sunlit view of a walled town.

Two lead cast members were confirmed. Masumi Tazawa voices Eliane, the story's title saint, and Taku Yashiro voices Nigel. On the staff side, Tsukasa Sakurai is directing and Naoki Totsuka is handling series composition. A firm premiere date, additional cast, and remaining crew have not yet been announced.

About the series

The anime is based on the light novel written by Shikiso Utsuzawa, published in Japan under Kodansha's K Ranobe Books imprint with original character designs by Pukyunosuke. A manga adaptation illustrated by Mokuba Matsu runs in Monthly Shonen Sirius, and Kodansha Comics has licensed the series in English, where it is available digitally through K MANGA.

The premise follows Eliane, who is publicly branded a false saint and cast out of her kingdom. As the source material lays out, she is in fact the true saint who had been quietly sustaining the magical barrier protecting the realm, so her banishment leaves the country sliding toward ruin. Eliane sets out for a neighboring nation, where she crosses paths with Nigel and begins to build a new life away from the court that discarded her.

A familiar hook, a new studio's take

Stories about a wronged saint who is exiled only for her homeland to unravel have become a recognizable corner of the fantasy and isekai boom, and this series leans into that setup from its very title. The interest for the adaptation will be in how Tsumugi Akita Animation Lab handles Eliane's reversal of fortune, turning a court injustice into the start of a warmer second chapter abroad.
