Futa Kimura's time travel action manga gets a TV anime at Bones Film, directed by Rie Matsumoto, streaming on Crunchyroll.
A new time travel action anime for 2027
The official Fate Rewinder (運命の巻戻士) account has confirmed that Futa Kimura's manga is getting a television anime, and the first teaser is here. According to the Fate Rewinder staff, the series is set to premiere in April 2027 on TV Asahi's 24-station national network, airing in the Saturday late night "IMAnimation" block. Crunchyroll announced at Anime Expo 2026 that it will stream the series, and released an English-subtitled version of the teaser the same day.
What was announced
The reveal arrived as a package: a teaser PV, a premiere window, and a newly drawn teaser visual. The account said the visual was illustrated by character designer Toshihiro Kawamoto, and it lines up the four leads beneath the tagline "Seize the one in a million future." The teaser itself sets up a fast, high energy action series, with Crunchyroll's subtitled cut putting the footage in front of international viewers right away.
No exact broadcast date within April 2027 has been announced yet, and streaming plans beyond Crunchyroll's involvement have not been detailed.
The staff behind it
The anime is directed by Rie Matsumoto, known for Blood Blockade Battlefront and Kyousougiga. Toshihiro Kawamoto, whose credits include Cowboy Bebop and Metallic Rouge, is the character designer, while Kimiko Ueno handles the series scripts and Satoshi Murai composes the music. Bones Film is in charge of animation production.
The main voice cast was revealed alongside the visual: Sho Komura voices the lead Chrono, with Koki Uchiyama as Shirai, Kohei Amasaki as Akaba, and Reina Ueda as Lemon.
What Fate Rewinder is about
The series follows Chrono, a young member of a Space Time Police special forces unit whose agents are nicknamed "Rewinders." Each agent is fitted with a "Retry Eye," a micro time machine implanted in the eye socket that lets them travel back and retry a case as many times as it takes to reach a future where the victim survives.
Fate Rewinder began as a one shot by Futa Kimura in February 2021 before moving to serialization in Monthly CoroCoro Comic, where its chapters have been collected into twelve volumes as of April 2026. It became the first title in CoroCoro's history to top the magazine's popularity survey for twelve consecutive months, a run that helped push it into award contention. The manga went on to share the 71st Shogakukan Manga Award, announced in January 2026, in a class that also included DAN DA DAN.
