Scissor Seven Universe Expands With HEIBAI Spin-Off Series in Early 2027
AHAVERSE revealed HEIBAI, a new animated spin-off following two young heroes, Mo Lang and Bai Qi, at BilibiliWorld 2026.

What was announced
The world of Scissor Seven is getting bigger. AHAVERSE has revealed HEIBAI, a new animated spin-off series in the franchise, during its "New World Premiere" showcase at BilibiliWorld 2026. The series is scheduled to premiere in China in the first quarter of 2027, with international release details set to be announced separately.
The reveal arrived with a teaser that introduces the spin-off's two leads and its more grounded, adventure-driven tone. It is a distinct project from the theatrical Scissor Seven film that AHAVERSE also has in the works, part of a wider push to grow the property across several new titles.
Who HEIBAI follows
Rather than returning to Seven, HEIBAI centers on two young heroes, Mo Lang and Bai Qi, whose contrasting personalities anchor a new story of friendship, growth, and world-shaping stakes. The series is set well before the events of the original anime, and early reports place it roughly 25 years earlier, though AHAVERSE has framed it as a spin-off rather than a straight prequel. HEIBAI has run for years as one of the franchise's popular spin-off comics in China, and bringing it to animation was described as a natural next step.
A widening franchise
HEIBAI is one piece of a broader expansion. AHAVERSE is building out an interconnected Scissor Seven universe that spans animation, games, and publishing rather than a single continuous storyline. Alongside the spin-off and the planned feature film, the company has an action-adventure mobile game in development. It has also launched a publishing initiative, AHABOOKS, whose first release is a spin-off comic centered on the fan-favorite character Hua, with an opening volume slated for early 2027. Taken together, the announcements read less like a single sequel and more like the studio mapping out several years of Scissor Seven stories at once.
Background
Scissor Seven is an action comedy that first aired in 2018 and went on to become the first Chinese original animation to launch as a Netflix Original, building a global audience across its run. Its mix of slapstick, stylish fight choreography, and surprisingly emotional character work made it a breakout for the Chinese animation industry, and the studio is now betting that the same universe can carry a slate of new stories. HEIBAI's teaser leans into that ambition, trading Seven's comedic misadventures for a pair of scrappy young fighters and a more sweeping adventure. For fans, it is the clearest sign yet that Scissor Seven is being treated as a long-term franchise rather than a finished series.
