RWBY Volume 10 Officially Greenlit by VIZ Media
VIZ Media confirmed a tenth volume of the long-running animated series at Anime Expo 2026, ending three years of uncertainty, though no release window was announced.
The announcement
RWBY is coming back. VIZ Media has officially greenlit Volume 10 of the animated series, a return first confirmed at the publisher's Anime Expo 2026 panel on July 4 and reshared this week by the show's official account. "RWBY Volume 10 has officially been greenlit," the official RWBY account posted, thanking fans for "your patience, passion, and continued support throughout the years." The reveal came in a video featuring returning showrunner Kerry Shawcross and members of the voice cast.
The greenlight closes out a three year wait. Volume 9 aired back in 2023 and ended on a cliffhanger that left the fates of several characters unresolved, and until now it was unclear whether the series would continue at all.
From Rooster Teeth to VIZ Media
RWBY debuted in 2013 and ran for nine volumes under Rooster Teeth, the studio founded by series creator Monty Oum's colleagues, before Rooster Teeth shut down in May 2024. VIZ Media acquired the RWBY property in July 2024, taking on distribution, production, licensing, and merchandise, and said at the time that it was exploring new chapters of the series. Volume 10 is the first new animation to come out of that acquisition.
According to reporting from Anime News Network on the Anime Expo panel, members of the original production team remain involved in the new volume, though VIZ has not yet detailed the full staff or the animation plan.
What we know
For now, concrete details are limited. No release window, episode count, or streaming home has been announced. Crunchyroll carried Volume 9, so it is a natural candidate to host the continuation, but nothing has been confirmed. VIZ also used the panel to note that all nine existing volumes are being made available for international digital purchase, expanding access for fans outside the series' original markets.
The core of the show remains its four leads, the members of Team RWBY: Ruby Rose, Weiss Schnee, , and . The franchise also produced a separate Japanese anime series, , which reimagined the cast in 2022. Volume 10 continues the main animated storyline rather than that spin-off.
