Expelled from Paradise: Kokoro no Resonance Unveils Fifth Teaser PV and New Character Penem

The official account and website for Expelled from Paradise: Kokoro no Resonance released the film's fifth teaser PV on July 22, alongside a new key visual, the production's full main staff list, and a newly revealed character. The updates capped the finale of the sequel's monthly "Rakuen Week" streaming program, which replayed the 2014 original across three nightly segments and which the official account had said would close with fresh information.

The new character is Penem, described by the official account as a third rank agent of DEVA's security bureau. She is voiced by Sumire Morohoshi, and the production also published an interview video tied to the casting. Alongside the reveals, the official site opened a third batch of advance tickets for July 24, bundled with a newly drawn visual card.

What we know

Kokoro no Resonance is a continuation of 2014's Expelled from Paradise, the CG science fiction feature produced by Toei Animation. According to the official site and reporting from Anime News Network, the new film reunites the original's core creative team: director Seiji Mizushima, screenwriter Gen Urobuchi of Nitroplus, character designer Masatsugu Saito, and composer NARASAKI. Toei Animation is again handling the animation.

Returning cast includes Ayane Sakura and Yoshino Aoyama, who plays the character Danel. The film is set to open in theaters on November 13, 2026, a date the production confirmed in late 2025 and continues to promote. The introduction of Penem widens an already growing ensemble as the campaign moves into its final stretch before release.

Background

The original Expelled from Paradise followed Angela Balzac, a security officer from the orbital digital society DEVA who is dispatched to a ravaged Earth in a physical body to track a hacker known as Frontier Setter. The 2014 film opened in a limited Japanese run, sold roughly 110,000 tickets, saw its Blu-ray and DVD release move more than 70,000 copies, and later won Best Animation at the 24th Japan Movie Critics Awards.

The franchise has been expanding beyond the new film as well. Anime News Network reports that a related visual novel, Expelled from Paradise: The Stellar Angel, is planned for winter 2026 on Nintendo Switch and PC via Steam, with Japanese and English support and Toei Animation as publisher.
