Tekkonkinkreet Gets Its First 4K UHD Release From GKIDS on September 1
GKIDS is bringing Studio4°C's cult classic to 4K UHD and Blu-ray for its 20th anniversary, with pre-orders open now.

What was announced
GKIDS is giving Tekkonkinkreet its first release on 4K UHD. In a post on July 6, the distributor said the film will make its 4K debut on September 1, 2026, to mark its 20th anniversary, and pre-orders are open now. GKIDS' listing and Anime News Network confirm the release lands as a two-disc 4K UHD and Blu-ray set, alongside a digital edition.
What is included
The set pairs the new 4K remaster with a slate of bonus features, according to GKIDS. Those include the making-of documentary The Making of Tekkonkinkreet: Director Michael Arias' 300 Day Diary, a conversation between Arias and the British music duo Plaid, a filmmaker commentary, and teasers and trailers. GKIDS had already brought the 4K remaster to North American theaters earlier in the year, screening it for two nights on May 31 and June 1 in both Japanese and an English dub.
Background
Produced by Studio4°C, Tekkonkinkreet is set in the crumbling Treasure Town, where two orphaned street kids, the tough Black and the naive White, fight to survive when a megacorporation moves to raze the city for a theme park. The film is adapted from Taiyo Matsumoto's manga and marked the directorial debut of Michael Arias, with a score by the electronic duo Plaid. Two decades on, GKIDS is positioning the 4K edition as the definitive home release of a title that has become a cult favorite.
