Sakamoto Days Season 2 Hits Netflix in January 2027 With a First Teaser
TMS Entertainment's adaptation returns with a new teaser visual and trailer, sending Sakamoto and Shin undercover into an assassin training school.
What was announced
Sakamoto Days is coming back. On June 24, the official @SAKAMOTODAYS_PR account unveiled a teaser visual for a second season, and Netflix confirmed that the series will return worldwide in January 2027 with a new teaser trailer. The streamer is positioning the new season as part of its Winter 2027 lineup, once again as a Netflix exclusive.
The teaser frames the new season as an infiltration story. According to Netflix, the key art shows Taro Sakamoto and Shin Asakura back to back as they prepare to slip into JCC, Japan's assassin training institution, to gather intelligence on the elusive figure known as X. The trailer offers a first look at Sakamoto going undercover as a student teacher, armed with a pen as his improvised weapon, while Shin enrolls as a student to dig for information from the inside.
Who is making it
Animation studio TMS Entertainment returns to produce the new season. Anime News Network reports a change at the top of the staff list: Daisuke Nakajima, who directed an episode of the first season, steps up as director, while first-season director Masaki Watanabe moves into a supervising director role. Character designer Yo Moriyama, series composition writer Taku Kishimoto, and composer Yuki Hayashi are all reported to be returning, keeping the core creative team in place.
The voice cast is expanding as well. Alongside returning performers, Anime News Network lists new additions including Kikunosuke Toya, Misa Watanabe, and Masahide Fuji, voicing characters connected to the JCC and to the secretive group known as ORDER.
Background
Sakamoto Days is based on Yuto Suzuki's manga, serialized in Weekly Shonen Jump since 2020, which Anime News Network reports has surpassed 15 million copies in circulation. The anime's first season premiered in January 2025, adapting the story of a legendary hitman who retired to run a corner store and raise a family, only to be pulled back into the world of assassins. With Sakamoto and Shin now heading into enemy territory, the second season sets up a higher-stakes chapter. A specific premiere date within the January 2027 window has not yet been announced.
