Kagurabachi Anime Heads to Crunchyroll for Its April 2027 Premiere

Crunchyroll will be the streaming home of the Kagurabachi anime, with the series set to premiere in April 2027. The streamer shared the news on June 26, posting alongside a new trailer that "Kagurabachi comes to Crunchyroll in April 2027." According to Variety, which broke the licensing details, Crunchyroll has secured rights to stream the show in all territories except Japan, Mainland China, North Korea, and South Korea. The April 2027 window itself was set when the adaptation was first announced earlier in 2026, so the new development here is that Crunchyroll has now locked in worldwide distribution.

A new cast addition

The announcement arrived with a fresh casting reveal. Per Variety, veteran voice actor Katsuyuki Konishi joins the cast as Togo Shiba, a former friend of the protagonist's father who aids the young swordsman on his quest. Konishi lines up alongside the previously reported Taihi Kimura as lead Chihiro Rokuhira and Tomokazu Seki as Kunishige Rokuhira.

Who is making it

The adaptation is produced by studio CyPic, with Tetsuya Takeuchi directing and Keigo Sasaki handling character designs, according to reporting from Variety and The Fandom Post. CyPic is a relatively young studio whose recent credits include The Summer Hikaru Died and Umamusume: Cinderella Gray. The outlets note that, while less established than larger houses, the studio has drawn strong notices for its recent work.

About the series

Kagurabachi is based on Takeru Hokazono's Weekly Shonen Jump manga. It follows Chihiro Rokuhira, a swordsman wielding an enchanted katana on a quest for vengeance against a group of sorcerers, with Togo Shiba helping him reclaim a set of powerful Enchanted Blades. The Fandom Post adds that the manga is taking a one month break in July, with new chapters set to resume in August, citing health issues for creator Hokazono.

A festival tour first

Ahead of the premiere, Crunchyroll and the production committee will hold a Kagurabachi Anime World Tour of early screenings. According to The Fandom Post, the tour's first leg begins at Anime Expo before continuing to Japan Expo, AnimagiC, Otakon, and Anime NYC. Further casting and production details are expected closer to the 2027 debut.
