Banana Fish Heads to Netflix on August 12 With New English and French Dubs
Netflix will stream the 2018 MAPPA anime in five regions, giving fans the properly recorded English dub they have long wanted.

What Netflix announced
Netflix's official anime account confirmed on July 12 that Banana Fish will start streaming in select regions on August 12, 2026. According to @NetflixAnime, the series will be available in the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, Ireland, and France, and it arrives with what the account calls exclusive English and French dubs.
The post also named part of the dub cast. Ash Lynx is voiced by Brandon McInnis in English and Sébastien Baulain in French, while Eiji Okumura is voiced by Jonathan Tanigaki in English. Netflix has not detailed the full cast beyond the two leads.
A proper English dub, at last
The dub is the headline for many longtime fans. Banana Fish previously streamed with an English dub on Prime Video, but that version was AI generated and was pulled after criticism from fans and voice actors, as The Fandom Post and other outlets reported at the time. The Netflix release replaces it with a newly recorded dub featuring named performers, which is why the announcement landed as good news rather than a routine catalog add.
About Banana Fish
Banana Fish is a 24 episode anime that first aired in July 2018, produced to mark the 40th anniversary of creator Akimi Yoshida's debut. It adapts Yoshida's manga and was animated by MAPPA, with Hiroko Utsumi directing, Hiroshi Seko handling series composition, and Akemi Hayashi on character designs, per The Fandom Post. The story follows Ash Lynx, a teenage gang leader in New York City, who confronts his abuser and rival gangs alongside Eiji Okumura, a photojournalist visiting from Japan, as the two investigate a mysterious and deadly drug.
Our catalog files the series under action, adventure, drama, and suspense, and that mix of street crime, conspiracy, and the bond between its two leads is a big part of why it has stayed in the conversation years after its original run. A properly recorded dub gives newcomers in the launch regions a fresh way in.
