Shunned by his kin, he was compelled to create the Book of Vanitas as an act of revenge, allowing anyone who controls the Book the opportunity to destroy all vampires. At an unknown point, Vanitas of the Blue Moon found a successor, Vanitas, to inherit his name and the Book of Vanitas.
