Manga Review

Qwaser of Stigmata has a parental advisory and it sure needs one. Our protagonist, Mafuyu, seems to spend half the manga in her panties and bra, that is, when she's not completely naked. But that's not her fault, as the battles she gets into seem to happen at the most inopportune moments (don't you hate it when that happens?). See, she's busy protecting her cousin Tomo, who seems to be getting all the attention of school bullies as well as sinister villains with bizarre intentions.

Qwaser of Stigmata Practically everyone is after this ancient relic (the Theotokos of Tsarytsin — a legendary icon depicting the Virgin Mary breastfeeding an infant Jesus fabled to alter the homeostasis of the world) that is hidden somewhere in their school, St. Mihailov Academy. And, as if the bullies and mysterious villains weren't filling her time enough with battles, when the two girls stumble over a Russian boy named Sasha, he takes over as defender for them, but has no qualms about turning their entire school into a disaster area. He's too powerful for his own good — or anyone else's!

The plot can be overly complex and there's too many characters (we heartily recommend the Wikipedia article to explain who everyone is, as you'll need a scorecard to keep track of it all), but that's a good thing as complicated, like a soap-opera, will draw you in and keep you entertained with all that's going on.

Qwaser of Stigmata Overall the art is attractive and there's plenty of action filling the pages of this manga. There's an overabundance of fanservice (seriously, there's a topless shot practically every other page!), but like we said, this manga is rated mature (18+), so we guess the fanservice is expected. And oh yeah, the characters are getting their super-powers from breastmilk, so you can expect more visible boobies than you can shake a stick at. The anime series appears to be taking it even further, going for pure ecchi. It will be interesting to see if the show gets censored over here.

And on another note this is the first item of *anything* we've ever reviewed that starts with a "Q". Hurrah!
