Mikansei No. 1
Manga Review
A girl named Neo Takigawa from the 23rd century dreams of becoming a music star. Unfortunately in the 23rd century girls being bouncy and singing all the time is greatly frowned upon. Neo found the perfect answer; go back in time to the 21st century and become a pop star there.
Once our hero arrives in the 21st century she quickly meets a boy named Saya who happens to be an aspiring idol. Thanks to a bizarre mishap the two end up forming a team and set out on their goal of becoming famous stars.
Mikansei is a very cute series. Saya falls into a very common role for a male lead in these types of series. He is a friend that seems to be slowly falling in love with Neo while she seems to be doing the same. While this is cute to watch it isnít especially interesting because it is such a regular occurrence in these types of series.
While we definitely had some fun with Mikansei it is hard to make a strong recommendation for it. The story is cute but isnít anything that original. It seems to be trying to add some drama as the first volume closes but I donít see it getting to the point where it will become a must read.
However, the artwork is exceptional and the characters are expressive, even for a medium where motion is only implied.
